Hoist Gear System with Redundant Drive
With hoist gears for process cranes, the focus is on high payloads of up to 600 tons and increased safety when transporting molten materials. The need for drive redundancy is just as important in order to ensure full operational reliability in the event of a motor failure. Eisenbeiss ensures redundancy using planetary superposition gears, which means that the full load can be safely hoisted at half speed in the event of a motor failure.
Harsh ambient conditions, such as high temperatures and high levels of airborne dirt and dust, place additional demands on sealing the gear units. To reliably prevent dirt ingress and oil leakage, Eisenbeiss uses proven engineered solutions, including special sealing concepts with grease chambers.
Depending on local requirements, various hoist concepts with redundancy can be implemented. Eisenbeiss offers gear solutions suitable for concepts with internal or external drum configurations. This includes both mirrored (bevel) spur or planetary superposition gears, as well as versions with central splitter gears and drum gears.

GEAR TYPE | Planetary superposition gear, helical bevel gear, spur gear with redundancy |
---|---|
POWER | 200 to 1.500 kW |
OUTPUT TORQUE | 50 to 1.000 kNm |
OUTPUT SPEED | 10 to 20 rpm |
RATIO | Planetary gears 50 to 100 when operated with two motors / 100 to 200 when operated with one motor |
LUBRICANT / COOLING | Splash lubrication / cooled via the housing |
Advantages
Enhanced safety
Thanks to drive redundancy, full loads can be hoisted safely even if one of the motors fails. Eisenbeiss uses a planetary superposition gear concept.
Designed for steel mills
Our gearboxes are equipped with welded housings, which ensure increased robust-ness and torsional stiffness and withstand the extreme conditions inside steel mills.
Tightness
To prevent the ingress of dirt and dust, additional grease chambers are provided as an option outside the shaft seal rings to guarantee an extended service life.
Variability
Based on decades of experience in the crane sector, Eisenbeiss offers numerous gear system solutions that are tailored to various hoist concepts.
