Steel Production

Safety and reliability without compromise

At Eisenbeiss, gear systems for steelworks, such as lance winches and crucible tilters, as well as for continuous casters, have been among our specialities for many years. We supply robust and low-maintenance special gearboxes, often with a redundant drive concept for emergencies, which is adapted to specific process and customer requirements. Especially in the continuous casting sector, we offer solutions that can withstand extreme loads.

Gear System Solutions | Steel Production

Continuous Casting Line Gears

The special requirements for continuous cast driver drives result from the immediate proximity to the steel strand, which runs at temperatures of up to 450 °C. Eisenbeiss pinch stand gears are ideally equipped for these extreme operating conditions thanks to their integrated cooling and special seals.

Spur Gear System

The standard for spur gear systems developed by Eisenbeiss is used for various applications and is adapted to the requirements of each situation.

Ladle Turret Gear Systems

Turret gearboxes are subject to high fail-safe requirements in order to avoid extensive damage to the continuous casting line if the steel solidifies in the ladle in the event of a drive failure. Eisenbeiss has developed various gear solutions for this purpose that have been tried and tested for decades in the harsh conditions of steel mills.

Lance Winch

With the help of planetary gears it is possible to implement dual drive systems or emergency drive systems in critical plant components such as oxygen lance winches. Two different output speeds can be achieved purely mechanically when operated with one motor or two motors.

Converter Tilting Drive

This application stands out due to the high loads applied in a stationary state. When oxygen is blown in, vibrations and shocks are transmitted to the gear unit. Eisenbeiss therefore focuses on high static strength.

Rolling Mills

QUALITY THAT PAYS FOR ITSELF!

The requirements for rolling mill gears are extremely wide ranging, depending on the specific application. In the cold rolling sector, a high power density is needed in order to achieve small roll diameters, while at the same time smooth operation is important for an optimum surface finish. For wire rolling mills, it is essential that grades of the highest quality are achieved, with special gear concepts needed due to the high rolling mill speeds.

Eisenbeiss offers special gears for the widely varying requirements of the rolling mill process and ensures that the necessary safety is provided at key points without unnecessary over-dimensioning.

Twin-Drive Gears for Cold Rolling Mills

With the Eisenbeiss twin-drive gears, up to 7 MW output can be divided between two independent drive shafts. Maximum plate strengths due to closely spaced axles.

Single-Drive Gears for Cold Rolling Mills

Eisenbeiss single-drive gears are characterized by their compact design in horizontal or vertical format. A high power density of the double helical gearing enables the transmission of up to 6 MW with pinion distances of only 400 mm in parts.

High-Speed Gear Systems

High-speed gears are mainly used in wire rolling mills with wire rod speeds of up to 120 m/s. For these applications, Eisenbeiss supplies high-precision gears that reliably absorb process loads and ensure smooth running over a wide speed range.

Changeable-Speed Gear System

Changeable-speed gearboxes have a very wide range of applications in the steel and aluminium industries and serve the overall goal of covering a much larger selection of products in one process step. A specially developed series of gearboxes has proven itself many times over for this purpose.

Pinion Gears for Rolling Mills

For long products, Eisenbeiss offers the full range of gear systems from the entry mill to the finishing mill. Eisenbeiss pinion gears in horizontal or vertical configurations have been designed especially to operate in tough environments involving mill scale, dust and cooling water.

Fine Rolling Mill Gears

Special applications call for special solutions. In this case the big challenge is the power distribution to three rolls which are far apart from each other.

Strip Processing

YOU CAN STRETCH IT AND LEVEL IT - WHAT REMAINS IS QUALITY

In terms of drive technology, the strip processing sector is one of the most versatile operations in the steel and aluminium industry. Whether wrapping or unwinding the coils, transporting or buffering the strip, straightening or stretching: each process step has specific requirements to achieve the ultimate goals of the process by setting product parameters, refining the surface and optimizing strip quality. The latter is often the focus and requires maximum precision and smoothness of operation. Eisenbeiss gear systems for strip processing are characterized by their very smooth and vibration-free operation, high power density and energy-efficiency.

Stretch Leveller Drive Systems

On stretch levellers, the highest level of precision control combined with low power consumption and lower overall investment costs is provided by the mechanical coupling of planetary superposition gears using a king shaft. With minimum space requirements, roll torques of up to 300 kNm and strip speeds of up to 500 m/min can be achieved with this Eisenbeiss concept.

Spur Gear System

The standard for spur gear systems developed by Eisenbeiss is used for various applications and is adapted to the requirements of each situation.

Bridle Roll Drive

The patented Eisenbeiss energy-saving concept achieves previously unattainable levels of efficiency. Thanks to optimized toothing, bearing assembly and lubrication, power loss with this application is reduced by about 30% compared to conventional solutions.

Accumulator Winch

This application stands out through high stress while in a stationary state which is why these units are designed to withstand high static loads.

Leveller Gear Systems

High torques and low axle spacing with a bearing service life of 50,000 hours are required by modern levelling machines. Thanks to a power distribution solution developed especially for this application, Eisenbeiss achieves this effortlessly – even on machines with 17 rolls.

Coiler Gear Systems

Coilers have widely differing designs in the steel and aluminium industries. From spur gears to coiler mandrel gearboxes, Eisenbeiss can implement the required gear solution taking into account the task-specific requirements while considering the overall system.

Abrasive Cutting and Sawing

PRECISION GEAR TECHNOLOGY FOR SMOOTH OPERATION

Applications such as abrasive cutting and sawing place particular demands on drive technology. During cutting and sawing processes, gear systems are exposed to shock-related loads at very high speeds in harsh operating conditions where machines are also exposed to metal dust. At the same time, high gear stiffness is essential to ensure a precision cutting process.

In order to meet these requirements, Eisenbeiss has developed special concepts that focus on the precision engineering of the toothing and the right choice of bearings. In combination with precise assembly and adjustment, the result is gear systems that run smoothly without backlash and have proven their reliability many times over in industrial applications

Gear System Solutions | Abrasive Cutting and Sawing

Gear Systems for Circular Saws

During the sawing process, shock loads acting on the gear system need to be absorbed by precision toothing to minimize vibration. Eisenbeiss gearboxes meet these requirements by combining profound know-how in design and precision assembly.

Gear Systems for Abrasive Cutting Machines

With output speeds of up to 4000 rpm and the high loads caused by the contact pressure of the cutting disc, the highest demands are placed on the bearings and the lubrication system. The Eisenbeiss gear design for abrasive cutting machines offers maximum smoothness and reliability in order to meet the highest specifications.

Cranes

LIFTING THE STANDARD TO A NEW LEVEL

Safety and reliability always come first when it comes to crane applications. In the steel industry, add to that extreme situations such as harsh ambient conditions with high temperatures (60-80°C) and dusty, contaminated air. Based on decades of experience in crane applications, in particular for steel mills and blast furnaces, Eisenbeiss has developed solutions that have proven their success in action.

Eisenbeiss gear systems cover a majority of the applications for overhead cranes. Three or four-speed spur gear systems according to the catalogue are used particularly in the area of general handling and transport cranes. For process cranes with a load capacity of up to 600 tonnes, Eisenbeiss offers custom-built gear solutions that are matched to the design of the crane. What is particularly important is redundancy in the event of motor failure, which is guaranteed as standard by a planetary superposition system. Chassis gears from the Eisenbeiss series or in accordance with DIN 15053 can also be included to round off the package.
