Gearoscopy – Endoskopie
The Eisenbeiss Gearoscopy® enables visual inspection of gear units using the very latest video and image endoscopy and without having to remove or dismantle components. Within a very short time, areas of the gear unit can be inspected that are otherwise hard to access, which saves time and money. As a result, the condition of all major gear parts is recorded and pending damage is identified at an early stage to prevent machine downtimes and ensure smooth operation.
Vibration Measurement
Offline vibration measurement is performed by a vibration expert on site directly on the transmission. By analysing frequency spectra, time curves and other signals, incipient gear and bearing damage can often be identified at an early stage. A routine combination of vibration measurement, endoscopy and oil analysis is a reliable strategy for optimal monitoring of the machine condition.
RE-ENGINEERING
Have your gear systems analysed by specialists to identify causes of damage and weak points. We offer application-specific optimisation measures using design calculations performed by the latest software. Mobile Online-Vibration monitoring
If damage is detected during a gear inspection, the question is whether the gear system can be operated until the next scheduled maintenance interval without causing additional costly consequential damage. By installing a mobile measurement system on the gear unit, vibration measurement can be carried out via remote access specifically for this purpose, and the results analyzed and evaluated by our experts. The gear unit can then be monitored continuously until scheduled maintenance can be carried out, or, if necessary, can be shut down in good time.

Maintenance concept for rail operator in Kuala Lumpur / Malaysia
Eisenbeiss has developed a maintenance concept for a rail operator in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It concerns Voith SZ16 wheel unit gears for railway vehicles. The work carried out included the initial inspection of two defective gearboxes, re-engineering and improved part designs, as well as the preparation of comprehensive gear system documentation. Spare parts were manufactured and assembly rig equipment was designed, gear overhaul instructions were created and four-week training was carried out on site. In addition, participants received Eisenbeiss certificates, and ongoing technical support and spare parts deliveries were ensured. The re-engineering phase took two weeks, the repair six weeks, and the on-site training four weeks.

Valmet – wind turbine gear unit

Gear condition report and repair
Eisenbeiss carried out a comprehensive gear condition report and repair for a Valmet S3GHD-506X wind turbine. This arrow-toothed spur gear had massive damage to the self-aligning roller bearing, severe grey stains on tooth parts and foam formation of the lubricating oil. No engineering design data was available. The work carried out included a Gearoscopy® report, which measured the condition of the gear unit, as well as the inspection of all gear teeth and bearings. An inspection report with photos as documentation was prepared and a proposal for renovation submitted, which recommended an immediate change of the bearings to avoid subsequent damage. In the Eisenbeiss repair shop, the gear parts were dismantled and subjected to a crack test, the condition of all gear components was assessed, and the housing was measured. The pinion shafts and spur gears were then renovated and all bearings and seals were replaced.

Complete overhaul of gear unit with re-engineering
September 2008
Eisenbeiss carried out a complete overhaul of an unknown worm drive spur wheel planetary gearbox for a chain hoist on a bulk material conveyor system. The gearbox had incurred significant damage, including a broken planetary stage, worn worm gears and a broken central part of the housing. Extensive re-engineering was carried out without the original engineering design data. The work included the replacement of all bearings and shaft seal rings, the renovation of the worm gear, the regrinding of the worm gear shaft and the re-machining of the worm wheel. The planetary stage, the central section of the housing and the drive shaft were redesigned and manufactured.

Emergency repair as a result of bearing damage
A beverage filling plant operated by Nor-Cal Beverages in Sacramento, USA, came to a standstill due to bearing damage on a cam gear system. The Eisenbeiss service team responded quickly by immediately sending a service truck to pick up the defective gear unit, which they immediately dismantled, cleaned and inspected in the workshop. All bearings, including the guide bearing and the shaft seal rings, were replaced. Following reassembly, a test run and painting, the gear unit was delivered back to the customer within three days, minimizing plant downtime.
